Side Inc. has confirmed that layoffs have it its codev team formerly known as Ghostpunch Games.
In a statement to Insider Gaming, a Side spokesperson said that the layoffs were a case of shifting needs at the company.
“While we can’t speak on any specific employee situation, as one of the largest gaming services companies in the world, every month we make decisions to grow and contract multiple teams, depending on client work, project states, and needs of the business,” the spokesperson said. “This is the nature of being a services company, partnering with the biggest developers and publishers in the world. Games have different staffing and experience requirements depending on where you are in the development cycle.”
The statement continued: “Side is deeply grateful to the impacted team members for their hard work, passion, and contributions to our projects and our clients. Their dedication has helped us uphold the high standards expected by our partners and players around the world. We thank them for being a part of our journey and remain committed to supporting them through this transition.”
Insider Gaming understands that it was less than 10 people who were impacted by the layoffs at the former Ghostpunch Games, including some whose contracts were ending and not renewed. Also, despite the studio working with Zenimax Online Studios on its “next AAA game”, it’s not believed that any of the layoffs have to do with what was believed to be the canceled Project Blackbird.
