It has been a long time since we had a brand-new Metro title, provided you don’t ‘count’ the spin-off VR title, Metro Awakening, which released last year. Metro Exodus launched at the start of 2019, and while we know that 4A Games is working on the next game in the series, nobody knows what it looks like.
In 2023, Insider Gaming exclusively revealed that the Metro Exodus sequel was ‘fully playable’, but little has been uncovered since then. Now, fresh posts on the 4A Games Twitter account have fans pulling together wild theories about an imminent announcement.
No Better Stage
Gamescom 2025 is less than one month away, standing firm as the biggest and broadest gaming spectacle in the world. The Opening Night Live ceremony, hosted by Geoff Keighley, is one of the most-watched gaming events on the planet, and it plays host to some of the most exciting reveals and new trailers.
This is where fans think the next Metro game will be revealed, on August 19, during Opening Night Live.
In a post on the Metro subreddit, user Revendi uploaded shots of the 4A Games Twitter account, showing that after almost four months of radio silence, a new social media manager was hired. That social media-focused team member immediately started pumping content into the profile, making a comment that far too many people have jumped on:
Revendi also noted that the team member in question relocated across the world from Poland to Malta to be better positioned to support the team. The running theory is that they’ve moved that close because a major project is set to be revealed.
In the comments under posts related to Metro, the new communications team member has tried to keep expectations at bay by repeatedly asking fans to ‘let them cook’ at the legendary studio.
It makes the most sense for 4A Games to appear at Gamescom with the first trailer for the next Metro game. Back in 2017, the team unveiled Metro Exodus at E3, and Gamescom is basically the new E3. It’s the biggest stage in gaming and the perfect place to get eyes on the trailer, even if doing so will cost 4A Games (or more specifically, Embracer) something like $250,000.
Being a huge Metro fan, I’m chomping at the bit for a new game to be revealed, so let’s hope things work out at Gamescom.
