The newly released, groundbreaking Team-Up Ability with Human Torch and The Thing is sending players into a frenzy. The First-Step Ability, available from July 24, UTC, has players lifting, throwing, slamming, and shutting down foes in perhaps the loudest cacophony combo we’ve ever seen. And judging by the reactions, this might genuinely threaten to change the meta in never-before-thought-of ways.
The announcement tweet dropped in like a meteor, throwing the entire community into utter chaos. Some players were excited; some terrified; some were already begging for it to get nerfed. @mmoonstail perfectly summarized the support mains’ panic: “how am i supposed to pocket heal my Thing main bf if he’s air striking the enemy backline 😓💔.” From now, healers will probably start praying. However, @RugalBossB, a self-proclaimed Thing main, said how this season is “off to a Fantastic start.” Pun was definitely intended there.
That being said, not everyone liked the ability. @Devin7576499601 shaded the developers in the most hilarious fashion possible for nonstop changes: “Yall gonna ruin the game with the constant changes. Look at overwatch. Yall just trying to kill a fun game faster than that.” The pain. Meanwhile, @NFTWhistledown called the devs out for making the move “You just had to make it not be a full kill, so it wouldn’t seem broken.😂”
The very concept behind the ability is batty to the last detail: The Human Torch launches The Thing into the air like some flaming wrecking ball. Marvel pun lovers are here for such shameless absurdity. Coupled with the lines “Buckle up, hot shot. Time to take flight… and land with impact,” the developers are gleefully embracing the madness. @MarquesGreat summed up the fear well: “That’s scary asl imagine being low hp and you see a flying thing coming at you 😭”
On the flipside, complaints come every new patch. @theakt1vated wants Spider-Man and Venom’s team-up back, @Rai__YT is begging for a Nintendo Switch 2 port, and @dariouscolon2 is still seeking cross-progression. Goalkeeper stuff – give them an inch, and they ask for a light-year.
Now that goes up for debate—how did this play out in matches? Judging from the replies, supports are sweating, Thing mains are thriving, and the rest of the population is just here for the fireworks. July 24 cannot come soon enough.
So yeah, Marvel Rivals isn’t just heating up; it’s sparking. Whether that is a good thing or not depends on whom you ask. But one thing is sure: no coach is going to forget their first UDK by a flaming pile of rocks.
