The Collaboration of the Century. Gamers divine a free Critical Role weapon pack for Assassin’s Creed Shadows, Ubisoft-style.
Looking to enter the giveaway? Just like the post, comment with a sword emoji ⚔️, and pray to the RNG gods.
Suddenly, however, the replies descended into chaos. Some highlights include:
“Does anyone actually like when in my historical period piece game, I have ice weapons from Helheim???” asked one skeptical gamer, while another stated, “This game is not Assassin’s Creed game.” Ouch.
Critical Role fans flooded the district. “It looks so cool I love critical role!” exclaimed one excited commenter, while another added, “I plan to buy Shadows for my birthday so it will be a cool gift if I win that weapon.” Smart move—Free DLC is the best birthday gift.
Not all were that kind: “LMAO, I get these for free with a cheat engine table, it’s ridiculous of you to sell weapons in a game that is already paid for,” another remarked. Then there was, “You guys are getting desperate I see.” Harshly said, but maybe true? Ubisoft has been making a big push for these cosmetic packs all of a sudden.
Those weapons look absolutely gorgeous judging by that preview image; gloriously ornate designs screaming “magical D&D loot,” yet fitting perfectly into Shadows’ feudal Japanese aesthetic. We are talking glowing runes and intricate engravings amidst all that razzle-dazzle. Quite literally the kind of ostentatious gear that would make other players stop mid-game and ask, “wait, how do I get THAT?”
This isn’t the first time Assassin’s Creed plays with crossovers-the last time we had chocobos in Origins from Final Fantasy XV-but a partnership with Critical Role, really, couldn’t go wrong. Both franchises top each other on worldbuilding on a grand scale and character-driven stories, one way with a little bit more stabbing than the other.
The giveaway is happening in such exciting times for Shadows, which has been amidst some controversy involving its double protagonists. Some fans are still bitter about playing the role of a non-Japanese samurai; one reply just put it super bluntly, “Can I play a samurai that is Japanese?” Oof. Maybe these shinier new weapons will go a long way in patching over that?
Whether for the toys, the Critical Role tie-in, or just to give the Shadows loot a new boost, the giveaway is happening as we speak. Just don’t be like poor Randomdaydreamr lamenting, “Don’t have the game 😔” – better get on that one first before proceeding with the entries, mate.
Down to the heart of it, anything free is one collective gamers will drool over-presentation of shining virtual weapons. Let’s hope the winners get to actually enjoy their loot before Ubisoft starts selling it for 14.99. Hey, may the odds be ever in your favor, and in all sincerity, may your critical hits be numerous when Shadows releases later this year!
